Merry Christmas 2012

Christmas morning started at about 7:30am around here. The boys came running into our room and we quickly got ready to go see what Santa brought the night before. He left the first gifts for the boys in our room...

...inside was a key-chain with their initials and a key.  They ran into the living room to see what the keys went too and found these...
Their own TRUCKS!!!!

Braddock got a hippopotamus for Christmas. ;)

Mom with her stocking.  Santa brought her Christmas gift a little early and she is the proud owner of a new Silhouette Cameo Craft Cutting Machine.

Dad with his stocking stuff.  He also got spoiled with a brand new IPAD 4.  (Santa's not that rich, he sold his old IPAD to afford the new one)

Santa and the reindeer loved the treats the boys left for them.

Dad and Braddock after opening all the presents.

Tanner and Landon got camera's from Grandma and Grandpa Hilton.  Thanks!  They're a hit!

And Baby Jesus was in the manger Christmas morning.  Luckily the boys helped make it nice and soft by doing nice things all throughout December.

And of course we had to brave the cold to try these guys out.
Cruisin' down our street with Dad.

Tanner REALLY wanted to give Braddock a ride.  Of course we vetoed that, but let him at least get in it for a picture.

Santa put a LOT of work into pimping out these trucks. He found them used for a screaming deal and cleaned them up and added some personal touches. After a power wash, waxing, a little paint, and some vinyl, they look pretty sweet. He added the "FORD" on the back, the windshield wipers, painted the grill and added the Ford decal on the front, and even got personalized Pennsylvania plates for each of them.  Landon could use some lessons on steering, but so far they're in love with their new rides.  We sure had a wonderful Christmas around here and feel so grateful as we count our blessings this year.  MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you as well!

Christmas Card 2012

The holiday season is here again.  Each year seems to fly by faster than the last, but we’re grateful for the chance to slow down a bit and reflect upon our Savior and His miraculous birth.  We want to wish you a very Merry Christmas, and hope you know how grateful we are to have you in our lives.  This past year has been a busy one for us.  This summer we made our annual trek out to Utah where we enjoyed catching up with family and friends.  Upon returning to Pennsylvania we had nearly all of the Nelson clan in town as well.  The highlight of our year was the addition of our little guy, Braddock Dee Nelson, to our family this past August.  His big brothers adore him and we think he’s a pretty great addition to our growing family.  The boys are still keeping us on our toes and continue to grow like weeds, but we’re enjoying every minute of it.

DEAN is still working hard to complete his Masters’ of Math Education.  If all goes well he should be done by this summer. YAY!  He’s still serving as the Ward Young Men’s President and between work, school, and callings we usually just see the back of his head.  We sure are grateful for such a hard working Dad, and appreciate all he does for us.

ANDREA stays busy just trying to keep everyone clean, fed, and alive around here.  Sometimes it feels like all she does is change diapers, but it’s worth it for the sweet smiles and the time with her boys.  She was called as the Relief Society Secretary this past Spring, and is enjoying her time back with adults after her stint in the Nursery.  She also serves on the Relief Society Meeting Committee as well.

TANNER is constantly on the go.  His little brain is always coming up with some elaborate plan to make or create something. He and Landon are the best of buds and help to keep each other entertained, which is good for Mom since Braddock takes up much of her time.  He’s reading simple books and smart as a whip.  He’s looking forward to starting Kindergarten and is enjoying being in Primary.

LANDON has grown so much this year.  He is very independent and thinks he can do everything himself.  Sometimes that’s a blessing, but often a curse.  He idolizes Tanner, and is a great big brother to Braddock.  We’re hoping he’ll survive another year of Nursery without too much of a fight, as he’d rather be in Primary his big brother.  He’s one very funny kid, and constantly has us laughing.

BRADDOCK is a spoiled little guy.  He feels the need to be held around the clock, and most of the time we do our best to satisfy that need.  He’s just about as cute as they come, and we can already tell he’s anxious to be big enough to run around with his crazy, big brothers.

We are so grateful as we count our blessings at the close of another year.  We hope this holiday season finds you full of joy and happiness and that it carries into the coming year!
Love,
Dean, Andrea, Tanner, Landon, and Braddock

Christmas Eve

We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to video chat with Elder Hilton on Christmas Eve.  Unfortunately Landon and Braddock were both sick, and so Dean had to leave to take Braddock to the doctor the same time we were chatting.  Luckily we visited long enough that they were able to get back and say hello before we had to sign off.  It was SO good to see Kevin and hear how he's doing.  Only 5 months left and he'll be HOME.  Yay.  Well, yay for us, I'm not sure he ever wants to leave Ukraine.

That night Dean stayed home with Landon and Braddock while Tanner and I headed over to Grandma and PapPap's with the rest of the family for a delicious Christmas Eve dinner.  (Don't worry we brought some home to the sickies so they didn't completely miss out).  Then we opened our traditional Christmas pj's and got the boys to bed in time for Santa to stop by.

Our Batman clad family on Christmas Eve

I made capes that attach to their jammie shirts.  They're a hit. ;)

Getting some cookies and carrots ready for Santa and his reindeer.

Check out my cute, little, super dude.

Gingerbread Houses 2012

A few days before Christmas Grant, Rachel, Eli, and Eric all came into town. Tanner was especially worried that we wouldn't squeeze in the traditional gingerbread house making that we usually do, but we managed to pull it off. Tanner made and decorated his all by himself and stuck with it for hours. Landon and Eli were more into the eating than the house making. Ha!

Tanner and Dad just getting started.

Landon downing some licorice.

Eli chowing on graham crackers.

He takes this seriously.

Christmas Partying

Tonight was our Ward's Christmas Party.  It was a Polar Express theme so we all went in our pj's.  They had a talent show that we put a little something together for and we recorded it for your viewing pleasure . . .

(Sorry the angle's a little bad, but you get the idea.)

Later we had an appearance from the big man himself.  Sadly Landon wasn't thrilled about that.  It makes for some pretty funny memories though . . .

This picture will make it into Landon's wedding video someday. ;)

Braddock was a big Santa fan though.  He was all smiles.

Lately...

As if this time of year isn't busy enough already, Dean has two graduate classes that need to be completed by the end of the month. That pretty much means he is no use to us and I'm playing single mom most of the time. Fingers crossed he'll get it all done, but either way he will eventually graduate so we're trying not to stress TOO much. Although if you know us that's not really in our nature. ;) So the boys and I have been hanging out doing a bit of this and that...

My little helpers.  Landon was also going around the house with the duster, dancing and singing about dusting.  LOVE them!

Thanks to my friend Kellie for this idea, we made Santa beards.  Landon refused to ever even try his on. ;)

This past weekend I gave everyone hair cuts, including myself.  It's SO much easier to do when it's short and right now easy is the most important factor.

Braddock woke up after his usual 20 minute nap and his big brothers went in to serenade him till Mom could come get him.  He's a lucky boy to have these two looking out for him.
Last night we had the missionaries over for dinner.  One was here on exchanges and guess where he's from??  Kaysville, Utah!  He was on drum line with my little brother Kevin.  What a small world.  It was really fun to meet him and Kevin will be jealous that his friend met his nephew before he did. ;)

Three Months

This kid's three months old already.  It's amazing how much you can love such a tiny little thing.  I think the third time around all the anxieties of caring for a newborn are gone and you can enjoy them a little more.  Braddock is starting to sleep in his own bed a little better.  He often still ends up with me for some of the night but we're at least headed in the right direction.  He also just figured out how to scooch out of his swing by himself. He was sleeping in there and woke up, and I guess I didn't get to him fast enough because the next thing I knew he was on the ground!  At least it's just inches from the floor so he was fine, but man did it startle me.  This time around I realize how fast they grow so we're trying our best to savor every moment.  We sure love you bud, quit growing up so fast!

Holiday Fun

So far this year I've let the boys stay up to watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas".  We of course had to pop popcorn and turn on the Christmas lights while we watched.  LOVE this time of year . . .

Landon was too into the show to look at the camera.

And a little peak at our Christmas mantel as well.

Decorating the Tree

For FHE last week Tanner taught the lesson.  He told us the story of Baby Jesus being born. We introduced the little manger that we fill with hay when we do kind things for others, and then we decorated the Christmas tree. It was the first time we've busted out the Christmas music this year and there's just something magical about Christmas music and Christmas lights that makes time slow down a bit. Dean helped set up the tree and then got back to studying while the boys and I decorated. . .

Showering and getting dressed is overrated.  Just keepin' it real.

Landon jammin' to the Christmas tunes.

A lame attempt at a picture of the boys and the tree.  Not everyone was cooperating. ;)

I especially love the way they decorate.  Three of the same ornament on one branch. ;)

So the bottom half of our tree was nicely decorated.  I may have fixed a few things after they went to bed.  ;)
And I'm still loving the ornaments I made last year.  I love the reminder of Christ every time we look at the tree.  What a wonderful time of year.

Let the countdown begin...

It's official, we have started the countdown to Christmas. I'll admit I may be just as excited for Christmas to get here as the boys are. Christmas is just a million times more fun with kids around. I love the excitement and the joy on their faces on Christmas morning. Anyway, every night we read a scripture story about Christ, we take turns eating the candy, and we unwrap and read a Christmas book. Tonight we got "Elf on the Shelf". The boys were supposed to come up with a name for our new little elf and after suggesting things like, Car Pump George Washington we used a tiny bit of coercion to settle on something a little more mainstream, and our elf's name is now Jimmy George. Here's hoping he helps keep these rascals in line this month.

We read about Christ raising the daughter of Jarius.

Landon was the lucky dude who got the candy tonight.
